The new classroom will enhance learning environments for students and educators

AUSTIN, Texas – A new classroom opens today at the LBJ School of Public Affairs at The University of Texas at Austin, helping the school meet the academic needs of a growing student population and soon, a new undergraduate program.

The classroom, located in B10 and sized at 1600 square feet, increases the LBJ School’s classroom footprint by 18 percent and seats up to 60 students. It is the largest flexible classroom space at the LBJ School, allowing educators to adapt the learning environment to their teaching style, cater to individual learning needs and accommodate various activities, from hands-on projects to lectures and discussions. In addition, the classroom has the latest generation of AV technology, allowing for speaker/participant tracking through web cams and ceiling microphones and improved video and sound quality. Televisions are located on each side of the room with the ability to display different visuals simultaneously.

The classroom will accommodate the LBJ School’s growing student population and in 2025, its inaugural undergraduate class.

“As we grow our student population and academic offerings, our physical space must also increase” said JR DeShazo, dean of the LBJ School. “This new classroom helps us expand our research and teaching mission to build a pipeline of public policy leaders and improve the quality of public service around the world.”

The LBJ School’s newest classroom is ready to support more than 100 enrolled students across five courses this spring semester, including:

The LBJ School, which was dedicated in 1971, offers top-ranked master’s degrees in public affairs and global policy, a PhD in public policy, a DC exchange program for UT students, and an array of executive education offerings including an Executive Master of Public Leadership, professional skills development, and a campaign school. In Fall 2025, the LBJ School will welcome its first undergraduate class.
