Michael Lind, a public policy professor at the University of Texas, Austin, has written sympathetically about the populist impulses behind Trump's candidacy. He compared Trump to former President Richard Nixon, who likewise outsourced management of much of domestic policy to the reigning Republican establishment. "The same way Nixon signed off on what was then the liberal domestic agenda, Trump signed off on the Paul Ryan agenda," said Lind, author of The New Class War.
