Checklist for Admitted Students
You've been recommended for admission! Now what?
Congratulations on your admission to the LBJ School of Public Affairs! The Office of Student Affairs and Admissions Team is so excited to welcome you to our wonderful school! We'll be working with you over the spring and summer to ensure you have all the information you need to start strong at LBJ!
This page is meant to be a helpful resource for you to help you keep on track. We'll use email and our "Newly Admitted Student Canvas site" to keep in touch as well. The Canvas site will be launching in May and will give you the chance to interact with other newly admitted students, as well as our team.
Please check this list frequently because we will be adding items to this checklist.
TARGET DEADLINE: NOW – APRIL 15
Accept your Offer of Admission
- Do this via UT’s MYStatus system
- This is important so we know you’ll be attending this fall
Read and Sign the LBJ School’s Quantitative Readiness Program Requirements
This is a mandatory step, please review and submit acknowledgement form ASAP

Attend the "Welcome to the LBJ School: Meet Current Students" Webinar
The Office of Student Affairs & Admissions at the LBJ School is inviting you to a webinar panel with current LBJ student to learn more about their graduate school experiences and life in Austin. We hope you can join us to interact with our current students and ask questions about the master of public affairs (MPAFF), master of global policy studies (MGPS), dual degree offerings, and DC concentration programs. Clear any Bars that may prevent you from registering
- Common UT Austin Bars: https://onestop.utexas.edu/registration-and-degree-planning/registering…
- Clearing bars will ensure you will be able to register when registration opens. If you have a bar on your record, you will NOT be able to register for courses!
Send in your official transcripts
TRANSCRIPTS
Submit Official Transcripts- this must be done prior to registration- you will be blocked from registering until this step is completed.
*do not send your transcripts to the LBJ School*
Please review the Transcript Submission FAQ
- Official transcripts bear the facsimile signature of the registrar and the seal of the issuing institution. Transcripts from U.S. colleges or universities must have been produced within the last calendar year, and transcripts written in a language other than English must be accompanied by a translation.
- If your college or university uses SPEEDE you can have your transcript(s) sent electronically. Check with the registrar of your institution to find out if transcripts can be sent via the SPEEDE. We cannot accept electronic transcripts sent by registrars or third-party entities in any other format (e.g. by email or by links to secure websites).
- Records from China: The university has entered into an agreement with the National Student Clearinghouse and the Center for Student Services and Development (CSSD). [formerly the China Higher Education Student Information and Career Center (CHESICC)] to transmit and verify academic records from China. Please review the Chinese Credential Verification Document
- Otherwise, mail your transcript(s) to the Graduate and International Admissions Center Links to an external site. using the submission form.
Begin the self-prep course for Quantitative Readiness
This will help ensure you are ready for the pre-assessment in May. This information will be launched soon, likely the week of April 24th. Please check back! Learn more about the Quantitative Preparedness Program.
Read the LBJ School Student Handbooks

This will help ensure you understand policies, procedures, and the LBJ curriculum. Check back in May.
Sign up for Course Advising with your OSAA Staff Advisor
This is a required step, and you will not be allowed to register until you complete your advising appointment. You will be assigned your OSAA Staff Advisor in May/June. Sign-up links will be added here in May for June-July advising appointments.
Complete the Quantitative Prep Assessment
Please read the Quantitative Readiness Program Overview. Please fill out the acknolwedgement form after you've read the requirements. Date information coming soon- the test will be online.
Attend the Program Deep Dive Sessions
This will introduce you to the curriculum at large and help prepare you for course registration. These sessions will be online and will kick off in May/June.
Attend or watch the LBJ Faculty Introduction Sessions/Meet and Greets
This will introduce you to the great LBJ faculty and will help prepare you for course registration. These sessions will be online and will kick off in May/June.

Take the Quantitative Pre-Assessment Exam
More details coming soon but the exam will likely be the end of May. Make sure you review the Quantitative Prep Canvas site fully, meet with Dr. Alfonso Rojas Alvarez and attend the weekly labs and problem set review sessions.
TARGET DEADLINE: JUNE 1-31
Complete your 1:1 Advising appointment
This is required and you will not be allowed to register for courses until you complete this step. You will learn who your OSAA Staff Advisor is and will be able to schedule an appointment with them beginning on June 19 through July 15.
Prepare to Register for Classes
Attend all group curriculum review sessions as part of our "Pave your Way Through LBJ" series. If you miss a live session, we will record them and post the recordings to the OSAA Newly Admitted Canvas site." Then, you must meet with your OSAA Staff Academic Advisor for your 1:1 advising meeting (starting June 19-July 15).
Be sure not to miss course registration in July. This is an online process and your OSAA Staff Advisor will assist you with your course pathway planning during the months of June/July.
Complete the Student Directory Form
We use the directory to introduce you to each other as well as introduce the faculty to the new cohort. Link coming soon!
Prepare to come to Austin for the mandatory Quantitative Prep Course

Complete your Course Advising Appointment with your Academi
Remember, completing your advising appointment is a required step and you will not be allowed to register for courses until you do so. More information coming soon. Appointment times will be offered in June-early July.
Attend OSAA Virtual Events
OSAA will host summer events such as program deep dives, faculty introductions, registration overview sessions, and more. Stay tuned for more details and RSVP links. Additionally, current student "Summer Transition Chairs" will be holding virtual and in-person social events throughout the summer. Details on all this coming soon!

Attend the Camp LBJ and Intensive Quantitative Bootcamp
August (in person at UT Austin): Camp LBJ and Intensive Quantitative Bootcamp:
- See the Quantitative Preparation Program Overview for requirements based on results of your pre-assessment
- We will also be planning social events throughout these two weeks that any new student can attend
Attend social events planned by current LBJ Student
Throughout the summer, our current student "Summer Transition Chairs" will be holding fun in-person and online social events so you can get to know each other!
Prep for Becoming a Graduate Student
OSAA will post resources for you to help you mentally prepare for becoming a grad student at UT Austin. Check back here and on the Newly Admitted Canvas page soon!

The LBJ School New Student Orientation is mandatory and will be held in Austin in August.
