The World Food System, from 1450 to 2050

In 2050 when there are 9 billion people on Earth, how will malnutrition be conquered? What will we eat? Who’ll grow it, and where? How will we distribute it? The world food system’s history and the struggles give some indication as to what we might expect. Using film, readings, small format seminars and food, we will explore possibilities for change in the food system. Students will present a research paper for transformative change in the food system at a local, national or international level.  Note: this class will be taught alongside upper-division undergraduate course NTR 365.
