The LBJ School’s Office of Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (JEDI), in coordination with LBJ Students Unidos, will be hosting Enrique Desmond Arias, Marxe Chair of Western Hemisphere Affairs and Professor at Baruch College and the Graduate Center, City University of New York, and Karla Peña, Early Career Fellow in the Department of American Studies at the University of Texas at Austin. He has published extensive articles on topics concerning security and politics in Latin America and the Caribbean.

In this conversation, Dr. Enrique Desmond Arias and Dr. Karla Peña will discuss the unintended consequences of U.S. military and non-military intervention in countries throughout Latin America, human rights violations against vulnerable communities, the illicit drug trade, democracy de-stabilization, and other important topics. Together, we hope to unveil how U.S. interventionism in Latin America has impacted the region's social, political, and economic development.

This event will be moderated by LBJ Student, Carolina Vanegas, MPAff 2023.
