Course Description
This course critically explores the relationship between historical and modern notions of race, ethnicity, gender and the development of public policy. The class acquaints students with the policymaking process in general which, in part, includes development, implementation, unintended/intended consequences, impact analysis, and evaluation. In addition the course will focus predominantly on policies that effect and/or arise from White Supremacy, Patriarchy, Heterosexism, and Capitalism in the US, as students will come to understand the role public policies play in the construction of modern US manifestations of oppression and also resistance.
These US manifestations for the purposes of this course will be (mostly) restricted to Education, Criminal Justice, and Health policies—the major areas of policy analysis at IUPRA.
