Human Rights & Democracy

This five-week course will provide an introduction to human rights and democracy as part of the international system and as foreign policy issues.  The course will explore the theoretical underpining of human rights and democracy, and the relationship between these two concepts.  We will also look at the process of democratization in various countries, including examining some examples of democratic transitions in order to identify key elements of a successful transition.  The course will have a particular focus on policy application by looking at international efforts to promote human rights and democracy, such as studying, designing, evaluating and critiquing human rights and democracy projects.

This section is scheduled to meet from February 21 through March 28, 2013.
