On Oct. 16, 2019, the Clements Center for National Security will host John Ciorciari, associate professor at the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy at the University of Michigan and faculty director of the Weiser Diplomacy Center and International Policy Center, for a talk on "Sovereignty Sharing in Fragile States" at The University of Texas at Austin.
Ciorciari's research focuses on international law and politics in the Global South, particularly in the Asia-Pacific. He is the author of The Limits of Alignment (2010) and co-author of Hybrid Justice (2014). His current research looks at governance interventions in fragile and failing states. Ciorciari has been an Andrew Carnegie Fellow, an Asia Society Fellow, a postdoctoral fellow at Stanford and the Hoover Institution, a policy official in the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of International Affairs, and an associate at the international law firm of Davis Polk & Wardwell. He holds a B.A. and J.D. from Harvard and M.Phil. and D.Phil. from Oxford, where he was a Fulbright Scholar.
