Policy on the Rocks

Policy on the Rocks is a GPAC-sponsored program stemming from concerns from students and faculty that there are not many opportunities to get to learn from each other informally. In a nod to the podcast War on the Rocks, this informal talk gives all LBJ students an opportunity to chat with policy practitioners about their experiences in the field. Our November hosts, Don Grier, Carron Whittaker and Eva Riquelme, are LBJ alumni and experts in health and public service, specifically in Medicaid, ACA and Child Welfare Information Systems.

We want to both MPAff and MGPS students to be interested in Policy on the Rocks topics. Grier has worked for 25 years with Accenture, primarily in health and public service. He has led projects for multiple Texas organizations and was on the forefront of ACA and SACWIS/CCWIS for Child Welfare. In his most recent role, he implemented eligibility systems across the United States with Carron Whittaker. Whittaker has worked for Accenture for the last 24 years across three different verticals – management consulting, operations and technology, with a primary focus in health and public service. In her career at Accenture, she has focused her efforts on developing customer-centric solutions, implementing new policies and re-engineering processes for state and local health and human services agencies, and most recently implementing and building reusable software products for H&PS clients. Eva Riquelme is also a management consultant at Accenture and can offer policy insights in Medicaid.

Check out our Facebook event and come join us at Schoolhouse Pub on Manor from 5:15 to 6:30 pm on Friday, November 16. Get to know local policy practitioners in an informal setting!
