Students of the LBJ School attend an immersive course in May through the Patman Center

The Patman Center for Civic and Political Engagement hosted a group of Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs students in Washington, D.C. for a May term course. This immersive course was taught by Patman Center Executive Director and LBJ School Professor Emily Bhandari and provided a unique snapshot of policy in the nation's capital.

Students participated in a wide variety of hands-on learning experiences, ranging from the Ronald Reagan Foundation where they met with policy director Rachel Hoff, to the Human Rights Campaign, where students listened to a conversation between JoDee Winteroff, Senior Vice President of Policy and Political Affairs, and LBJ student Floridell Berry.

The Patman Center’s mission is to strengthen our democracy by cultivating skilled leaders who exemplify an ethos of civility, service, and bipartisanship.

The Center achieves this mission by providing students with extensive leadership training in a bipartisan environment, a working knowledge of our democratic government and opportunities for experiential learning, internships, and political mentoring.

Registration for The Patman Center’s next Maymester in spring 2025 occurs this fall! Four scholarships will be available to cover costs associated with travel and accommodations while in D.C. Applications for the scholarships open in December 2024.
