We are heartbroken to announce that Héctor Eduardo García Zaldívar, an exchange student from CIDE, has recently passed due to violence in his hometown in Zacatecas, Mexico. Zaldívar studied at the LBJ School in the fall of 2019. During his time at LBJ, he was widely recognized for his love of service and his pride in his hometown and home country.

Zaldívar's drive to grow and bring positive change to his hometown and country shone through in all of his interactions. To many in our community he represented the values of kindness, intelligence and community pride that are exemplary for an LBJ student. He will always be one of us.

The LBJ community sends condolences to Héctor's family. Please feel welcome to share tributes and memories on this memorial page as well. We encourage you to reach out to us and one another for support in this difficult time. Students may also reach out to our new CARE counselor, Bryce Moffett, by leaving a message at (512) 232-4449 or stopping by her office in SRH 3.119 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Additional support resources can be found at UT's Counseling and Mental Health Center.
