Dear Colleagues,
I am sorry to share the sad news that Craig Pedersen, an important member of the LBJ community and an exemplary public leader, civil servant and teacher, passed away at the end of December. As noted on his obituary page, a memorial service will be held for Craig at Hyde Park Presbyterian Church this Friday, January 10, at 1:00pm, with a reception to follow.
Craig was a distinguished LBJ School alumnus as well as a professor and the first director of the Executive Master of Public Leadership program. He served Texas leaders James Nugent, Bob Bullock, and William P. Hobby. As Executive Director of the Texas Water Development Board, he created and implemented enduring regional water planning procedures.
In the words of David Eaton: “As a professional, Craig was never satisfied with exemplary performance, but sought to take on and succeed in ‘impossible’ challenges that could make a difference in the lives of people. His secret skill was that he communicated and lived respect for everyone. As a faculty member and the first EMPL director, Craig was a creative academic program designer and valued colleague and teacher. Students and colleagues wanted to be around him because of his relaxed, creative, and cooperative style.”
I offer my condolences to anyone who knew Craig personally. Remembrances or reflections on Professor Pedersen are welcome on this memorial page.
Sincerely,
JR DeShazo
