What I do
I currently serve as Deputy Chief Financial Officer for a state agency that serves as a resource, partner, and advocate for Texas higher education.
What inspires my passion for public service
As a daughter of immigrants, my passion for public service is deeply personal. I’ve experienced firsthand how public programs and policies—such as access to education and healthcare—can change the trajectory of a life. These opportunities weren’t just systems on paper to me; they were the foundation that allowed me and my six siblings to build a better future. Choosing a path in public service felt like a natural way to honor that experience. I feel a deep sense of responsibility to help others access the same opportunities I was fortunate to have. Every time I’m able to support the public through my work—whether it was working to provide the Texas Legislature with ways to maximize federal funds for state programs or now in my role as Deputy CFO–I see how critical financial stewardship is to provide effective and efficient state services.
How the LBJ School of Public Affairs shaped my career
The LBJ School of Public Affairs introduced me to public finance and the variety of careers in government. The courses I took sharpened my analytical skills and pushed me to learn how to provide the best information to policymakers. In addition, I learned how to tackle issues and problems with stakeholders to ensure successful resolutions.
What advice would you give to others who are considering a role in public service?
Explore every sector of public service and keep an open mind. Any sector or industry would benefit from critical thinkers and compassionate workers who know how to solve problems.
