On March 4, the Clements Center for National Security will host Brigadier General (Ret.) Kimberly Field, professor of the practice and executive director of the Albritton Center for Grand Strategy at Texas A&M University, for a talk on "Managing National Strategy in an International Coalition" at The University of Texas at Austin.
Field joined the Bush School as executive director of the Albritton Center for Grand Strategy and the Department of International Affairs as a professor of the practice in the fall of 2019. A graduate of the United States Military Academy, where she concentrated on Russian studies, Field retired from the United States Army as a brigadier general. She also earned master’s degrees from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, and the U.S. Army War College.
During her more than 30-year military career, Field served two tours of duty in Afghanistan, where she was executive officer and strategic advisor to the force commander, and a partner in the Afghan Local Governance Directorate. Other major posts include deputy assistant secretary of state, director of military-political affairs for the Middle East in the Pentagon, deputy chief of strategy for the U.S. Army and chief of plans and strategy at the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies.
Field has taught at the U.S. Military Academy, Georgetown University and the Army War College, where she was an adjunct faculty member. She has published in several military journals, including Parameters and Joint Forces Quarterly, as well as in national media outlets. She is currently serves as a board member for the Global Center for Refugee Education and Science and the Afghan American Business Council.
