AUSTIN, Texas — The Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at The University of Texas at Austin will host U.S. Congressman Tony Gonzales on December 1 for the 2025 Lt. Gen. Norm Lezy Distinguished Speaker Series. Open to UT and LBJ students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members, the conversation with Congressman Gonzalez takes place from 4 to 5 p.m. at Bass Lecture Hall (2315 Red River Street on the campus of UT Austin), followed by a networking reception from 5 to 6 p.m.

Gonzales, who represents Texas’s 23rd District, served in the U.S. Navy with deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan. He will join the LBJ School for a discussion on public service and the political issues shaping the nation. The conversation will explore his career in public life and his perspective on current events in Washington and across Texas.

The program is part of the Lt. Gen. Norm Lezy Distinguished Speaker Series, which honors Lezy’s legacy as a public policy leader who served more than 30 years in the United States Air Force. His service culminated as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Military Personnel Policy, where he oversaw the establishment of policies concerning military personnel matters for 1.4 million service members. His example of leadership in public policy continues to guide future generations.

The series is made possible through the support of Dr. T. Spike Terwilliger, a retired military officer and federal executive, longtime supporter of the LBJ School, and a former professor of leadership, management and national security.

“Lt. Gen. Norm Lezy set a standard for leadership and service that continues to shape our school’s mission,” said JR DeShazo Dean of the LBJ School of Public Affairs. “We are grateful to Dr. T. Spike Terwilliger for making this series possible and for his longstanding commitment to supporting the education of leaders who serve with integrity and purpose.”

The discussion with Congressman Gonzales is free and open to the public with advance registration.
