NUCLEAR NONPROLIFERATION POLICY

Description: This course introduces students to the policy and technical aspects of international and domestic efforts to stop the spread of nuclear weapons to countries or terrorists. It explores how some peaceful uses of nuclear technology – for energy, research, and industry – may facilitate nuclear weapons proliferation. Students gain valuable experience in public speaking via debates, and in teamwork via group projects. They also obtain broader lessons about how public policy is formed by interaction of international law, domestic law, norms, national interests, and interest groups. The requirements are class participation (20% of course grade), a mid-term exam (20%), debates (20%), and a final project (40%).
