POLICY RESEARCH LAB

Policy Research Lab: Public Consulting in Action

Ever wanted to work as a consultant or strategist for public-sector clients? The Policy Research Lab is a student-driven, hands-on  PRP course where you take the lead in shaping and delivering real-world policy solutions.

At the beginning of the semester, 6-8 public sector organizations—spanning economic development, health policy, energy, climate, and more—will pitch their projects to the class. Students will then form teams, select a client, and drive the entire engagement—from project scoping and research design to stakeholder engagement and final recommendations.

This is not a traditional lecture-based class—it’s an immersive consulting experience where students take full responsibility for managing the project from start to finish. You’ll work directly with clients, conduct primary and secondary research, and produce professional-grade reports and presentations. The work will be dynamic, evolving, and at times ambiguous—just like real consulting.

If you’re ready to gain practical experience in public consulting and tackle complex policy challenges, this course offers a rare opportunity to do so.
