Course Description:

 

This course will introduce students to the ethical and policy considerations regarding the development, implementation, governance, and use of artificial intelligence in the United States and internationally. We will examine the various forms AI takes in the public, private, academic, and nonprofit sectors. We will contemplate the ethical and human implications of AI in various areas such as: the future of work, education, healthcare, cities, energy, and national security. There are many ethical and policy issues related to AI to consider including: trust, privacy, transparency, agency, equity, bias, security, and safety. We will analyze AI polices, regulations, guidelines, and governance at the local, state, and federal levels in the US and internationally. Through case studies, guest lectures, debates, and research students will gain practical insights into the promises and perils of AI, and into the challenges of AI policy formulation and governance
