ETHNIC CNFLCT AND HUMAN INTRV

Description: This course examines whether military intervention can prevent genocide, and under what conditions it might backfire by exacerbating violence against civilians. It explores these topics through three case studies: Bosnia, Rwanda, and Kosovo. The lessons can be applied to recent conflicts including Ukraine, Syria, Sudan, Myanmar, and Gaza.

The requirements are class participation (20% of grade), one in-class presentation (10%), a mid-term exam (20%), and a 25-page research paper (50%).
