Fall 2023 - 61065 - PA 384F - MANAGING OVERSEAS OPERATIONS

MANAGING OVERSEAS OPERATIONS

In this course, we will examine the unique aspects of managing an organization – public sector, international or non-profit – in an international environment. We will look at external factors that affect an organization’s operations: the host government, the local security situation, the economy and local availability of resources, including human resources, etc. We will also examine internal management functions affected by operating in a foreign location: human resource management, financial and budget operations, administrative services for expatriate staff, etc.

Through lectures, readings, discussions, presentations by guest speakers, and writing exercises, we will learn about key factors affecting the management of an organization overseas and develop some of the skills and knowledge necessary to be an effective international manager.
