Fall 2014 - 62670 - PA388K - Advanced Topics in Public Policy

Writing for Global Policy Studies

The MGPS requires each student to demonstrate advanced individual writing skills suitable for a professional career. To develop these skills, students will analyze what makes writing effective, learn specific tools for better communication, and address common mistakes in public policy writing. Weekly writing assignments and peer review will help students become stronger writers and better editors of their own work. By the end of the course, students will have amassed a portfolio of writing samples in common public policy genres (memoranda, cables, op-eds, press releases, blog posts) that they can use for job and internship applications. Students will also have opportunities to sharpen their oral communication skills. This course is a full-semester version of the Master of Global Policy Studies program's required sequence of three one-credit writing courses.
