Fall 2014 - 62665 - PA388K - Advanced Topics in Public Policy

Writing for Global Policy Studies

This course is a full-semester version of the Master of Global Policy Studies program's required sequence of three one-credit writing courses. It aims to develop the written and oral communication skills necessary for policy professionals by focusing on the various genres of writing that LBJ School graduates may be called upon to produce. The class is built around weekly writing assignments that allow students to try their hand at drafting specific types of policy documents, to which the instructor and the teaching assistant will offer substantial and personalized constructive criticism. By the end of the course, students will have amassed a portfolio of writing samples (op-eds, memos, cables, press releases, blog posts) that they can use for job and internship applications.
