Clements Center: Donald Trump and the Making of a Worldview

Event Status
Scheduled

Join the Clements Center on Thursday, March 9th, in SRH 3.122 at 12:15pm, for a talk with UT Harrington Fellow Charlie Laderman on his new book Donald Trump: The Making of a World View (Endeavour 2017). CC Faculty Fellow Jeremi Suri will serve as a discussant for Dr. Laderman's book. This event is free and open to the public.

In Donald Trump: The Making of a World View, Charlie Laderman and Brendan Simms reveal that President Trump has had a consistent position on international trade and America’s alliances since he first flirted with the idea of running for president in the late 1980s. Furthermore, his foreign policy views have deep roots in American history. This book explores how the worldview of the 45th President of the United States was formed, what might result if it is applied in policy terms and the potential consequences for the rest of the world.

Dr. Charlie Laderman is currently a UT Harrington Fellow with the Clements Center for National Security and LBJ School of Public Affairs. He joins us from the War Studies Department at King's College, London. He was previously a Research Fellow at Peterhouse College, Cambridge University and an Affiliated Lecturer at the Department of Politics and International Studies. His research focuses on 19th and 20th century America and its relations with the wider world, with an emphasis on the intersection between U.S. and International History and the interconnection between U.S. foreign policy and domestic politics.

Dr. Jeremi Suri has a joint appointment in the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs and the University of Texas at Austin Department of History. Dr. Suri was previously with the University of Wisconsin, where he was the E. Gordon Fox Professor of History, the Director of the European Union Center of Excellence, and the Director of the Grand Strategy Program. He earned his B.A. in history from Stanford University in 1994 and an M.A. in history from Ohio University in 1996. He then earned his PhD from Yale University in 2001.
