It is the Graduate Public Affair Council's pleasure to announce that Chelsi Chang will be our LBJ School Class of 2021 Student Commencement Speaker! Chelsi will be sharing the stage with Ambassador Vilma Martinez, who has been named our Commencement Keynote Speaker.
Chelsi is a graduating Master of Public Affairs student specializing in education policy. After working in the college access space, she returned to graduate school to learn more about the education system and how to improve access to quality education for low-income, first generation, and/or students of color. She served on various DEI initiatives within LBJ, including serving on the GPAC DEI Committee as well as the faculty DEI committee as a student representative. She finished her final year as the co-chair of Policy Alliance for Communities of Color. Chelsi is a first-generation student from Jamaica (and proud of it) and the first person in her immediate family to graduate with a master's degree.
"I am extremely honored that my classmates nominated and voted for me to be class speaker. Graduation is such a sacred moment for all of us, especially for traditionally underrepresented students. I hope to do my class proud and speak to the resilience and love the LBJ community continues to show me. I couldn't be happier!" —Chelsi Chang (MPAff '22
