Director of Community Programs, Texas Association of Regional Councils

What I do
I work closely with Area Agencies on Aging across the Texas Councils of Governments, supporting programs that enhance the quality of life for older adults. I also collaborate with regional leaders on community and economic development initiatives, helping to strengthen local economies and improve services throughout the state.
What I love most about my job
The people—the dedicated colleagues I work alongside and the communities we have the privilege to serve. Every day, I’m surrounded by individuals who bring passion, purpose, and a shared commitment to making a difference. That kind of environment is incredibly energizing. But it’s the communities we serve that truly keep me motivated. Hearing their stories, understanding their needs, and working together to find real solutions reminds me why this work matters. There’s something powerful about being part of a team that shows up—not just to do a job, but to create a meaningful impact in people’s lives.
How Hobby School of Public Affairs prepared me
The Hobby School of Public Affairs played a significant role in shaping my career journey by helping me explore different areas of public service through its courses and the inspiring individuals I met along the way. The program broadened my understanding of how I could make an impact and gave me the tools to do so effectively. Additionally, as a proud alumna of the University of Houston volleyball program, I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunities and support provided by my coaches and teammates. Both experiences—academically and athletically—introduced me to incredible people and helped build the foundation for who I am today, both personally and professionally.
My advice for others considering a role in public service
Public service is a meaningful and rewarding path that allows you to make a real difference in people’s lives. My advice is to stay grounded in your purpose, lead with empathy, and embrace the challenges that come with the work. Serving communities across Texas has shown me how uniquely each region approaches its needs, making the work both dynamic and inspiring.
