CLIMATE ADAPTATION SCENARIOS IN WATER MANAGEMENT INSTITUTIONS

Routinely incorporating climate adaptation into water planning best prepares resource management institutions to manage for continuous and uncertain changes to come. Within this context, planning managers need to consider when and where it may be possible and strategic to resist undesirable changes, when it may be prudent to accept changing conditions, and when it may be appropriate to actively direct change in valued systems and resources. At its core, the purpose of adaptation is to reduce the vulnerabilities of, and minimize risks to, natural, ecological, and societal values from climate change. Addressing climate change as a routine component of both management planning and public policy is the
path to adaptation.
