This is the core course at Texas Law for those interested in the legal aspects of counterterrorism. Over the past fifteen years, few topics have generated more attention and controversy. When can the government kill for counterterrorism purposes? Where and on what grounds can the government prosecute suspected terrorists or their supporters. When if ever is it permissible to detain terrorism suspects without criminal charges? How do all of these topics relate to more traditional notions of how (and by whom) wars are fought? What role, if any, should courts play in checking and overseeing government operations and activities in this space? Professors Chesney and Vladeck will explore all these questions and more, creating a unique opportunity for you to have exposure to a broad range of views on these hotly contested questions.
