The Patman Center for Civic and Political Engagement hosted the 3rd annual Public Policy and International Affairs’ (PPIA) Public Service Weekend at the LBJ School at The University of Texas at Austin on July 18-21, welcoming over 40 undergraduate students from across the country to participate in an immersive policy experience.
The event’s signature theme, "Emerging Public Policy Issues in Texas and the American South", offered participants the opportunity to discuss policy challenges that included race, socio-economic status, and border policy. Speakers and discussions centered around the need for bipartisanship and ways to affect change as a young policy professional.
Programming included presentations and discussion with expert LBJ faculty, center directors and Texas politicians, including Travis County Commissioner Jeff Travillion and Texas State Representative Gina Hinojosa.
Further enhancing its undergraduate experience, the LBJ School launched its Bachelor of Public Affairs degree for enrollment in Fall of 2025. This innovative new program will focus on skills in leadership, policy analysis, data analytics, communication and organizational management for a career in public service.
