The Dewitt Greer Professor in UT’s Department of Civil, Acchitectural and Environmental Engineering, Dr. Kara Kockelman is a registered professional engineer and holds a PhD, MS, and BS in civil engineering, a master’s in city planning, and a minor in economics from UC Berkeley. She has been a UT Austin professor of transportation engineering for 27 years, and has served as Associate Site Director of the NSF Center for Efficient Vehicles and Sustainable Transportation Systems, President of the North American Regional Science Council, Chair of the Transportation Research Board’s Travel Survey Methods committee, Chair of UT’s Faculty Women’s Organization Steering Committee, Member of UT’s Faculty Council and more. She has received MIT’s Top 100 Innovators Award, Google’s Research Award, an NSF CAREER Award, UC Berkeley’s Medal, and more. She and her students have authored over 230 journal articles (and two books), and her primary research interests include planning for shared and autonomous vehicle systems, the statistical modeling of urban systems, energy and climate issues, the economic impacts of transport policy, and crash occurrence and consequences.
