INTRODUCTION TO HEALTH POLICY AND MANAGEMENT

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Introduction to Health Policy and Management

Why is healthcare so expensive? Why do some people have access to healthcare and others don’t? Why can’t we make treatments for curable diseases available to everyone? This course will tackle these questions in a broad introduction to health policy and management. We will start with global health challenges, then move to U.S. health policy at the federal and local levels, and finally narrow down to policies and decisions implemented by hospitals, health systems, and other organizations. Students will engage with real-world case studies, reflect on current policy debates, and learn how to analyze and interpret research to inform policy decisions. No prior background in health policy, economics, or management is needed.
