Erik Sand is an Assistant Professor of Economics and National Security at the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin. Prior to coming to UT, he served on the faculty of the U.S. Naval War College’s Center for Naval Warfare Studies. He earned his PhD in Political Science as part of Security Studies Program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Prof. Sand spent nine years as an active-duty U.S. Navy surface warfare officer. His work has been appeared in Security Studies, Texas National Security Review, the Washington Quarterly, the Washington Post, and War on the Rocks. His current book project explores why states share advanced military technology with other states. His other research interests include economic warfare, deterrence, bureaucratic politics, and the future of warfare.
