Evan Smith, co-founder and former CEO of The Texas Tribune and now a Professor of Practice, is once again teaching a class called The Politics and Issues of the Election Cycle. Designed for LBJ students, the class typically features some of the most powerful and celebrated names in politics and policy as guests. All semester long on Mondays from 1-2pm, the guests will be candidates running for office in 2024.

  • January 22: Texas Supreme Court Justice Jane Bland, running for reelection to the high court
  • January 29: State Sen. Roland Gutierrez, D-San Antonio, running for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate
  • February 5: State Rep. Victoria Neave Criado, D-Dallas, running for the Democratic nomination in Senate District 16
  • February 12: State Rep. Jeff Leach, R-Plano, running for reelection to his House District 67 seat
  • February 19: U.S. Rep. Tony Gonzales, R-San Antonio, running for reelection to his 23rd Congressional District seat
  • February 26: State Rep. Brian Harrison, R-Midlothian, running for reelection to his House District 10 seat
  • March 4: State Sen. Sarah Eckhardt, D-Austin, running for reelection to her Senate District 14 seat
  • March 18: District Attorney José Garza, running for reelection to Travis County district attorney
  • March 25: State Rep. Julie Johnson, D-Farmers Branch
  • April 1: U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro, D-San Antonio, running for reelection to his 20th Congressional District seat
  • April 15: State Rep. Craig Goldman, R-Fort Worth, running for the Republican nomination in the 12th Congressional District
