Tristan Stitt (MGPS ‘27), a first-year Master of Global Policy Studies student at the LBJ School, is co-chairing the 30th annual Barbara Jordan National Forum, bringing a passion for economic justice and human rights.
Chosen for this leadership role by his peers at the LBJ School, Stitt’s journey to the position reflects his lifelong commitment to understanding structural challenges and advocating for meaningful solutions.
“Moving around frequently as a child allowed me to experience different communities. As I grew older, I began to see existing inequities and understand more about the structural challenges that we often face.”
Before joining the LBJ School, Stitt spent several years working in the non-profit sector and engaging as a community advocate. He chose LBJ as the next step in his journey, eager to deepen his knowledge and continue his career path as a public servant and organizer.
Barbara Jordan’s legacy serves as a major inspiration for Stitt.
“It is an honor to be a part of something that honors the life and legacy of someone so brilliant and determined to not let a mountain of adversity stop her.”
Stitt is especially excited for the Barbara Jordan masterclass with Commissioner Ann Howard, where students will explore Jordan’s original syllabus from her nearly two decades as an LBJ School professor. The session offers a rare opportunity to step into her classroom and experience firsthand the lessons and approach that shaped generations of leaders.
As co-chair, Stitt hopes the forum will give students a chance to step back from the daily stream of challenges in the news and in their communities. It is an opportunity to reflect on historic obstacles and the changes that followed. Lessons he sees as central to the LBJ School experience.
Stitt encourages students interested in participating or volunteering during BJNF Week to reach out to him or the other forum chairs to learn more.
