In our increasingly complex world, there is a growing need for leaders who can span sectors and disciplines, as well as national and cultural boundaries. This requires advanced management skills to bring together diverse groups of actors to ensure social needs are addressed and policy outcomes are achieved. Whether students are interested in global, national, or local career paths, these leadership qualities are foundational to successful engagement in policymaking.
This subject will attempt to build such capacities in LBJ students through three avenues: a) review current research examining cross-sector social partnerships and boundary spanning leadership, b) study cases of ‘boundary spanning leaders’ in real world settings, and c) introduce students to personal development models to enhance their capacities to become effective catalysts in their chosen career path.
This class will meet from January 17 through February 24, 2014.
