Economic Development: Best Practices in County Policies and Programs


This proposal is a request to the National Association of Counties (NACo) to sponsor a Policy Research Project (PRP) at the LBJ School of Public Affairs for the purpose of developing a paper on “Why Counties Matter” Research Papers Series: Economic Development.” This paper will provide an overview of challenges faced by counties in economic development, the resources devoted to economic development, and cases studies of a range of programs adopted by county government. Information for the study will be drawn from published sources (U.S. Census of Governments), existing literature, and a survey will be conducted.
