Catalyzing Discovery for Social Impact: Exploring the Power of the Research-Academic-Policy Nexus to Stimulate Policy Innovation

Accessible, actionable, and relevant scientific knowledge holds great promise for providing significant societal benefits, however identifying the mechanisms by which such knowledge makes its way into the appropriate public policy streams remains a challenge. To begin addressing this challenge in a scientific way, we propose a workshop that would enable a systematic approach for collecting, aggregating, and examining information and experiences across public and private sectors for identifying consistent characteristics of successful and unsuccessful partnerships. Through such integrative learning, we will be able to build new understandings about such partnerships and the dynamics undergirding them, as well as develop a knowledge system around such social ventures to support their sustainability and long-term impact on society.
