Policy on Purpose: Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel | LBJ School of Public Affairs | The University of Texas at Austin

Chicago’s Mayor Rahm Emanuel visited the LBJ School on Feb. 13, 2019, as part of the Dean’s Distinguished Leaders Series. In episode 13 of "Policy on Purpose," Mayor Emanuel — who has served as mayor, a congressman, chief of staff to the president of the United States, senior adviser and campaign strategist on local and national levels — talks about his pragmatic approach to policy and what he’s learned throughout his career.

Emanuel has been mayor of Chicago since 2011. He has made education and public safety central priorities of his administration, lengthening the school day and the school year, implementing full-day kindergarten and expanding prevention programs for at-risk youth and policing strategies. Previously, Emanuel served as White House chief of staff to President Barack Obama, three terms in the U.S. House of Representatives and as senior adviser to President Bill Clinton for policy and strategy.

The LBJ School's podcast, "Policy on Purpose," takes listeners behind the scenes of policy with the people who help shape it. Host Angela Evans, dean of the LBJ School, dives into real-world and timely policy topics with leading experts from the school and the policy world at large. Listen and subscribe.
