LBJ School of Public Affairs’ Technology and Public Policy Program, and the University of Texas at Austin’s Telecommunications and Information Policy Institute are proud to present Digital Inclusion in Texas, a conference and colloquium. The conference will bring together noted scholars, representatives of federal, state, and city government, and nonprofit advocacy organizations to address gaps in broadband adoption throughout the United States.

The Texas Tribune is partnering with The University of Texas at Austin’s LBJ School of Public Affairs for the next installment of Texas Tribune Festival’s “On The Road” series, titled “Health Care.” The daylong symposium will cover major issues in health care policy in Texas and will include discussions about the Affordable Care Act, women’s health, cost containment and the impact of technological innovation on medicine. The event will take place April 25 at the LBJ School of Public Affairs. In addition to several LBJ School alumni who will be speaking on panels, LBJ School Professor David Warner, a health care policy expert, will be moderating a panel on cost containment.

In February, Texans Care for Children, a nonprofit, nonpartisan advocacy group, published a report titled “Solutions to Our Texas Challenge: 30 Ways to Build a Better Future for Kids and Our State.” Some analysis in the report is from a 2011 Policy Research Project (PRP) directed by Associate Professor of Public Affairs Pat Wong.

For over a year, 17 LBJ School student researchers spent over 900 hours collecting more than 1 million data points on how Members of Congress use social media. To their surprise, they discovered that these elected officials used social media most often to publicize their positions on policy issues, not for self-promotion, campaigning or media appearances, as the researchers originally thought.
