Juan Preciado | LBJ School of Public Affairs | The University of Texas at Austin

Preciado is a candidate for the Master of Public Affairs (DC Concentration) at the LBJ School. He double majored in political science and public policy with a minor in economics as an undergraduate at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.

Preciado served in the U.S. Navy as a weapons technician on the USS America, where he deployed and operated in South America, East Asia, the Middle East and the Horn of Africa, which developed his interest in national security.

At LBJ, Preciado is a student ambassador and is involved with the Alexander Hamilton Society, which focuses on debate on topics relating to national security policy.

Preciado is interested in national security and veteran affairs, particularly in the context of researching and advocating for mental health. He hopes to find a Policy Apprenticeship in DC focused on these topics working either on Capitol Hill or as a White House fellow.

Policy interests: National security-cyber warfare/security; veteran affairs-mental health; veteran affairs-employment
