Christian Flores is a candidate for the Master of Global Policy Studies (DC Concentration) at the LBJ School. He is a summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa graduate in history, political science and Spanish from Illinois College.
Prior to graduate school Flores worked for the policy and research division of Safer Foundation, a nonprofit in Chicago providing holistic reentry services to help people with arrest and conviction records acquire long-term employment. He has also been a Fulbright Scholar in Brazil and an operations assistant for Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL).
At LBJ, he is taking a course in international planning and learning to use Python in the context of statistics and microeconomics.
Flores specializes in evidence-based policy solutions and is interested in Latin American regional policy, particularly in the context of democracy and human rights. He hopes to find a Policy Apprenticeship in DC focused on human rights in Latin America working with a nonprofit organization or think tank, such as Human Rights Watch, Freedom House or Inter-American Dialogue.
