Course Description:

How do you make sure bad things don’t happen? Controls! In this workshop, learn how to define risks and apply controls to mitigate the risks – without creating a burdensome bureaucracy. 

The 2013 version of the COSO model will guide our work.  We will work through a case study relevant to the participants.


Course Objectives:

At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Define business risks;
  • Mitigate risks with controls;
  • Choose and strengthen key controls;
  • Document controls to satisfy regulators and auditors;
  • Distinguish between preventative, corrective, and detective controls;
  • Describe the COSO model and how to use it; and,
  • Identify and lean critical processes using Lean/Six Sigma tools.

Cancellation Policy
If you need to cancel your registration, your written cancellation notice must be received before April 3, 2018 in order for you to receive a full refund. Thereafter, cancellation notices received after April 3, 2018 and before May 1, 2018 will be charged a $65 administrative fee. If cancellation occurs between May 1, 2018 and the start of the class, you will be responsible for 50% of the original fee. If we do not receive written notice of cancellation prior to the event, you will be responsible for the full registration fee. You may send a substitute to the class. Cancellation notices should be emailed to lbjopdinfo@austin.utexas.edu. Phone messages do not serve as official cancellation notices.
