LBJ School Hosts War
on Terror Symposium

EVENT: A one-day symposium on transnational terrorism that will bring together state and local officials, academics, and senior administrators from the University of Texas at Austin.

WHEN: Wednesday, February 18, 2004, 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.

WHERE: Bass Lecture Hall, LBJ School of Public Affairs, UT Austin, 2315 Red River Street.

BACKGROUND: Experts will lead panels on topics such as the psychology of suicide terrorism, the role of courts in the war on terror, perceptions of the Arab world, intelligence and homeland security policy. (See complete agenda below.)

Admittance to the panel discussions is free. Faculty members and graduate students are encouraged to attend. For more information, call the LBJ School’s Office of Conferences and Training at 512/471-0820.

This is the fourth event in the War on Terror Series organized by General Montgomery Meigs, a leading military analyst who holds the Distinguished Visiting Tom Slick Professorship of World Peace at the LBJ School of Public Affairs. Previous lectures in the series have featured USA PATRIOT Act coauthor Viet Dinh, former associate deputy director of the FBI Oliver “Buck” Revell, former chief of counterintelligence of the CIA James Olson and U.S. Congressman Jim Turner.

Endowed from the estate of the late Tom Slick of San Antonio, the Slick Professorship provides support for a continuing program of research, graduate education and public enlightenment related to world peace. Previous Tom Slick professors have included Gunnar and Alva Myrdal and Brian Urquhart.
